Here Comes the Bride!

Okay, guys. It’s not often that I watch Filipino movies, and it’s not often that I highly recommend a movie. But I highly, highly recommend THIS Filipino movie.

Here Comes The Bride is a comedy that plays on all the usual Filipino stereotypes: the dainty and graceful Filipina, the powerful yet bitchy woman, the abused yaya (nanny), the old sickly grandfather, and of course, the gay beautician. But this movie brings all of these characters together and mixes them up in a body-swapping story. Starring some seasoned comedians and actors/actresses like Eugene Domingo, Tuesday Vargas, and John Lapus, and the surprising dark horse of the movie, Angelica Panganiban, who played her role perfectly. I’m really amazed that she could pull off the role so well.

If you’ve never seen a Filipino movie before, I suggest you start with this. And I’m totally giving you the link so you won’t delay one second. Just follow the sequence under “Suggestions” on the Youtube page and watch until the 12th part.

NOW GO!

Part one:

Fifteen movies!

Tagged by Tifafa! :3

The rules: Don’t take too long to think about it. Fifteen films you’ve seen that will always stick with you. List the first fifteen you can recall in no more than fifteen minutes. Tag fifteen friends, including me, because I’m interested in seeing what films my friends choose. (To do this, go to your Notes tab on your profile page, paste rules in a new note, cast your fifteen picks, and tag people in the note.).

  1. Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl
  2. Mulan
  3. Toy Story 3
  4. Up
  5. Penelope

Crazy

What! It’s been 3 weeks since my last post!!! How is that possible? What has happened to me?

What? Are you wondering if it’s because I’ve been studying really hard and working on my school projects? Are you even hearing yourself? This is me we’re talking about, have you not learned anything about me in the past few months/years you’ve known me?

I’m only kidding, of course school played a part in my long absence. I’m not a complete bum. But majority of the reason I’ve been gone is that for the past two weeks, I’ve been on an insane Chuck marathon. Yes, I who used to shun American TV shows have watched almost the entire first 3 seasons of Chuck in a span of about 16 days. It’s insane! I know! (Or not. But consider the fact that I watch only on Saturdays and Sundays. Yes. That’s maybe 5-6 days.) First it was Glee, then now Chuck. What’s happening to me???

All that in addition to having tons of schoolwork! I’ve got about 3 major presentations lined up this week, with one paper? Well I guess I should be thankful I’m not having oral exams. I hate oral exams.

Hm. Yeah. That’s about it. If you don’t hear from me in another 3 weeks, I’m probably just burying myself into some TV show. Rest assured that I have not forgotten about my blog and will return to it… eventually.

In the meantime, any recommendations on TV shows that are similar to Glee/Chuck? That is, comedy/romance/high school drama and/or action spy thriller? Nothing sad or boring. Also not Kyle XY. Or Gossip Girl. Or One Tree Hill, for that matter. I want to be happy, okay?

Prince of Persia: Sands of Time

This is not a movie review. Obviously, the movie sucks. The big budget is there, and we can all see it in the amazing set design and CGI… but the plot, especially the ending, is just HORRIBLE. Argh. It’s so frustrating to sit through all 100+ minutes of the movie and end with that… ridiculous ending. Hey Disney, please hire a new writer!!!

And it’s disappointing too, because I loved the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie so so much mainly because of the plot (and of course, because of Johnny Depp, but that’s another story), and I was so psyched that at last this was the “new” Pirates franchise. And then. Boom, gone.

Dear Disney, as a Management student, I have only this to tell you: go hire another BETTER writer, write a BETTER script, and make a BETTER sequel. Please, please, please, pleaaaaaaase.

Oh, did I say this wasn’t going to be a movie review? Sorry, got a bit carried away.

Actually, the real point of this blog post is this: JAKE GYLLENHAAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(See, I am capable of fangirling over people who are not Korean!!!)

JAKE GYLLENHAAL JAKE GYLLENHAAL JAKE GYLLENHAAL JAKE GYLLENHAAL

Have you seen The Day After Tomorrow? It’s got JAKE GYLLENHAAL in it and it is so awesome. Because of JAKE GYLLENHAAL. (And Emmy Rossum… what ever happened to her, anyway?)

I haven’t seen Brokeback Mountain and I don’t ever plan on doing so. Maybe when I’m 60 and could care less about ______________. (You are free to fill in the blanks with your imagination haha!)

I haven’t seen Donnie Darko!!! Why! I’ve been planning to see it for ages. Argh. Is it scary? I get scared really easily. Maybe I’ll watch it when I’m 30.

Charmie’s Life Goals

To do when I’m 30

  1. Watch Donnie Darko

To do when I’m 60

  1. Be alive
  2. Watch Brokeback Mountain (Maybe I should postpone it to when I’m 80… Hm.)

Movies!

It’s been a while. :)
  1. The Jane Austen Book Club – Excellent movie! Stars a lot of big name actresses like Maria Bello and Emily Blunt PLUS Hugh Dancy who is absolutely charming. If you’re a fan of Jane Austen books (Emma, Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility) you will probably love this movie which sorts of mixes all of these books together into a huge modern adaptation. I’m not really a big fan of Jane Austen books, but I loved this movie. :) It’s one of those feel-good chick flicks that are fun and not too sappy.
  2. The Bounty Hunter - I’m not going to say much about this movie because I’m sure most of you have seen it. It’s a romantic comedy starring Jennifer Aniston and Gerard Butler (who is looking even scruffier). I personally love Jennifer Aniston, but I feel kind of scared of Gerard Butler at times. Anyway, fun fun movie, a bunch of action scenes if you’re into that kind of thing. My dad, who loves only horror movies, action movies and gore movies, loved this! Haha!
  3. Emma - Another Jane Austen movie! This one stars Gwyneth Paltrow and some other actors who I don’t know. I actually didn’t like this movie so much, not because it’s not a good movie (it is) but because I don’t know what they’re saying!!! They’re speaking in rather formal old English (or at least I’m assuming it to be) so it was hard to understand. Especially without subtitles. But Gwyneth Paltrow is pretty as always and overall, it’s a very nice, charming movie. (BTW Clueless (starring Alicia Silverstone)  is actually a modern adaptation of Emma! :D)
  4. Sherlock Holmes – I can’t believe I waited so long to watch this! It’s just SO AWESOME. I want to watch it again!!!!!
  5. The Wedding Singer - I absolutely love 50 First Dates, so I’ve always wanted to watch Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler’s first movie together. And it didn’t fail me! It’s super funny, even if it’s pretty old (it was released in the 90′s, I think, but the movie itself is set in an even earlier time) and the songs are actually quite recognizable! Drew and Adam are just too cute together. It’s basically like 50 First Dates but with a less complicated plot and a lot crazier hair. :P
  6. Penelope - I’ve blogged about this movie several times already, but I recently rewatched it, and it’s just SO ADORABLE. If you haven’t seen it, SEE IT! I fell in love with James McAvoy all over again. I think I love it so much that I’m going to name it my official favorite movie.

Movie updates! Some movies I’m looking forward to seeing:

  1. Inception - Ugh.
  2. Despicable Me - It’s so fluffeeeeeh!!! (WHY does the Philippines have to have a delayed release for THIS movie and not all the other insignificant movies… T_T)
  3. Scott Pilgrim vs the World – Is it out already? I don’t know. I have no life. (The trailer looks good haha)
  4. Flipped - If this sounds familiar, it’s because it’s that super awesome YA book written by Wendelin van Draanen. Remember that book?? It’s being made into a movie and it’s looks SO AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  5. Easy A – The trailer looks really good! Plus it’s Amanda Bynes’s last movie before she retires. :(
  6. The Social Network – The trailer looks really good too!

Basically instead of going out to watch Inception and/or studying for my long test tomorrow, I spend all my time watching movie trailers and wishing I could see them when they come out. And when they actually do come out, I sulk and blog about how I can’t go and see them.

Sigh.

Toy Story 3

Yes. I finally watched it. And it was AMAZING. I love it so so so much. Maybe if I get to rewatch it someday, I will think it’s not as funny, or not as cute, because probably the magic of the movie theater was working while I watched it.

But the sadness? It’s never going to go away. The feeling I had towards the ending of the film was almost like the feeling I had when I was leaving Hong Kong back in December. I don’t know. I don’t even love my own toys that much, but I guess that’s what makes the movie so awesome. One moment you’re laughing your guts out, and the next the waterfalls start gushing and you laugh and cry at the same time.

Anyway. If you haven’t seen it, see it. Not just because it will make you cry, but because it’s one of the best movies ever made. GO!

Glee! (Part 2)

I haven’t been blogging at all for the past few weeks, but my last post should have explained this. I spend all my free time watching this stupid show and now I’m FINALLY finished!!!

And it’s just amazing! I think the fact that I was once part of a choir myself made me love the show more, because I knew what they felt, what they were going through. And it’s true that my chorale days were some of the happiest days of my life.

So now that the first season is over, I now have time to do homework and read my readings. And blog, of course.

See you again soon!
